NYFW Collina Strada x Happy Socks

Following the world’s first sock runway at Berlin Fashion Week and three successful fashion week integrations in Milan, Copenhagen, and Paris, Happy Socks LAB—our initiative to push the boundaries of design and craftsmanship—is now teaming up with the New York cult brand Collina Strada at New York Fashion Week. As part of the Collina Strada FW25 runway, select Happy Socks styles have been reimagined through the designer’s distinctive artistic lens—featuring unique accessorizing with charms, delicate flower embroidery, and bold layering of two to three socks at a time. The collaboration was born out of a shared passion for creativity, innovation and redefining traditional fashion norms. It highlights how thoughtful design can elevate even the most utilitarian pieces, creating cohesive fashion statements that resonate with modern consumers. Before the show, we got the chance to sit down with Hillary Taymour, founder and creative director of Collina Strada, and learn more about her design process, her favorite sock from Happy Socks’ FW25 collection and much more!

Can you walk us through your design process when starting a new collection?

Each collection I start with fabric utilizing repurposed fabrics, deadstock materials, and innovative dyeing techniques to minimize waste while creating unique textures. From there I envision what the fabric becomes. How do I want to wear it in my wardrobe? My design process mainly starts with what is missing when I am getting dressed and then I go fill in the gaps. From there I like to include elements like deconstructed tailoring, layered silhouettes, and garments that appeared to morph or evolve. These pieces start with the fabric and then we manipulate the textures and see how they can come to life.

How did you approach reimagining iconic looks with the Happy Socks FW25 collection? What inspired the final looks?

It was such a natural process. They have such a huge selection to choose from, I am very into layered socks right now so I did small things to "Collina-fy" them like adding a flower here, or some charms there to make it my own.

What shared values or creative synergy do you see between the two brands involved in this collaboration?

I feel like our ethos is the same. Collina loves to create positive energy to promote change. While happy socks is literally HAPPY! It was the perfect blend.

Do you have a personal favorite sock design from the FW25 collection? What makes it stand out to you?

I love the layered thigh high sock that turns into a thicker sock at the bottom. Its so smart and since I am all about layered socks at the moment it suits my needs perfectly. Also whenever you wear thin tights in the winter you always need a thicker sock to fit in your shoe and not ruin your tights, it's truly smart.

Socks have become a statement accessory in recent fashion trends. How do you incorporate them into your everyday style?

I love to wear socks that match my pants or shoes and I love socks with ruffles right now. I have been using them a lot too in the summer to tuck my pants into a pair of ruffled socks is fun.

Happy Socks is all about color, the unexpected detail and spreading happiness.

What’s your go-to color for lifting your mood on a grey day?
Pinks and greens are my colors I always go back too.
