Happy Socks: Can you tell us more about how you went about recreating new looks from old socks?
Rave Review: “The whole process behind creating the socks, tights, and warmers came very naturally to us. We’ve been working with similar pieces for styling in previous collections, so the whole collaboration, from the very start, felt very us.”
Is there anything special to consider when using socks as a material? They’re very small, after all.
“Overall, we applied the same kind of thinking when it comes to patchworking together socks, as we did for a lot of garments. We simply pick out the socks we like the most, and then try different cuts and lines until it feels “right”. A lot of the lines have a disrupted “swirl” shape. Something we’re also embracing is a raw feel by keeping seams turned to outside and in some places even holes.”
We also saw that you dyed some of the socks, can you talk to us about that?
“Yes, we also decided to dye some of the socks, to make it fit more into the darker dusty palette of the collection. We wanted the socks to feel harmonious together with the clothes. Dying is a big part of upcycling for us, it’s another way to transform textiles and clothes into something new.”
Interesting to hear. We also dye many of our socks, though rarely do we re-dye them!
